Which holiday events on your forums have really taken off? Which ones were a dud?

I feel like people don't really care about events on forums that much anymore. Peeps just want to chat with each other, have actual conversations.... and they ignore all the other stuff on the forum.

What about the events that offer a cash prize? I mean, I see people coming onto forums wanting to do paid posting and they don't bother entering some of the easy win contests. I don't get it.

It probably depends on the kind of forum you have. If I go to a music forum, I can't be bothered if there's an event about a famous politician, and on a politics forum, I couldn't care less about celebrating a musician that died that day.
Events that get some attention everywhere are the simple public holidays, if you have a large enough group on your forum that celebrates them (Christmas, Thanksgiving for the US and/or Canada, Easter). Or events related to the forum itself (anniversary, milestones).

I don't hold events anymore, I used to and have done many times but every damn time it ends up failing and worse off not holding an event. Not enough members taken part and most are not even interested in the prize in hand by any means,
