Holiday Events

How do you feel about holiday-related events on forums?
If you are a person who does not celebrate a certain holiday and the forum has a holiday skin up or event going on, do you mind?

The best results I have seen from this are not making it the default, but making it an option. Post an announcement that you have a holiday theme for use, and people can switch too it if they like. I have hated in the past when one of my spots busts out a theme I find repulsive. I tend to hang away until it's over.

Now days, I don't participate in contests too much at all, unless it's like FOTM or something like it, where it's something that users can use on their forums to help make their forum better a bit. I've seen forums have snow on the index page, and I don't like that really, as I am constantly on my laptop and it makes my internet run slow for that particular site. I would say a second, non-holiday related theme is probably the best way to go. Then if you got someone on the forum that doesn't celebrate Christmas, they can always go back to the regular theme if they wish to.
