I just noticed I have 222 posts! And '2's look like 'z's... THAT'S LIKE 'ZZZ' posts! Which subliminally makes you want to listen to ZZZ top, which (subliminally) encourages you to grow out a really long beard... HOLY CRAP! Long beard: That's mean's I'm going to turn into an Orthodox Jew! :O

Just a reminder kids: Don't do drugs. :great:

So in order to keep this post from being removed as spam I'll now engage in intellectual discussion. How do you feel about subliminal advertising? Do you think it works?

Personally, my opinion is I'm feeling pretty Jewish right now.

First of all, it's ZZ Top 😀

I've personally never thought about this. I've never fallen for subliminal messages, and I hadn't really ever thought anything about them except TV shows use them a lot.

Hahaha lol Matthew I totally should caught that. But since I didn't I won't bother editing my first post... just another reason not to do drugs, kids.

Lol when I started reading I was think WTF??!?!?!!?!

Subliminal advertising is just stupid and never works. 😛

Subliminal advertising is basically hidden messages embedded in the form of ads.

A few examples:
A McDonald's logo appeared for one frame during the Food Network's Iron Chef America series on 2007-01-27, leading to claims that this was an instance of subliminal advertising.

During the 2000 U.S. presidential campaign, a television ad campaigning for Republican candidate George W. Bush showed words (and parts thereof) scaling from the foreground to the background on a television screen. When the word BUREAUCRATS flashed on the screen, one frame showed only the last part, RATS.

Just a quick question, what's with all the random capitals?

Ah, I see BUY STUFF? 😛

The way it works is that an image appears for such a short time, your brain doesn't have time to process that you saw it. So it manifests itself as a thought which you think you thought.

Let's say your watching TV and the word Matthew appears on screen for a fraction of a second. You see it, but you don't have time to register it. But your sub conscience did pick it up. Therefore you start thinking along the lines of, "You know what's a cool name, Matthew." It appears to be a random thought but you were really lead to that.

It's kind of confusing, and I really don't think it works.

Something along the lines of what that Derren Brown does. 😉 He says he read your mind, but he puts the thoughts into your mind in the first place by saying things that make you think of certain other things. 😉

Very confusing indeed. 😛

Since I've studied online marketing, I can adapt that to real life marketing so I don't get caught out doing something like impulse buying.

But of course, it works and can be fatal (credit cards, mortgages etc.).

When I think of those types of ads I think more of emotional advertising (appealing more to the emotional needs and desires of the customer) not so much subliminal advertising. I think that emotional appeal is why so much crap gets sold over television ads (Darn you Vince and your shamwow!!!).

Emotional appeal leads to impulse buying and that WORKS LIKE CRAZY! As for actual subliminal advertising... I have my doubts.
