Hail the NHS.
I know, I'm jealous of your income tax

Oh fine. Let's have a debate then so...

Would you rather pay a low rate of income tax and then pay through the nose for insurance? If you can't afford medical insurance then, under the American system, very few hospitals will give you any more than the most basic care. I've heard stories of people in the US checking in with a heart attack only to be given an aspirin and discharged.

Healthcare, IMO, should be a human right. I'm on centre right, and even I believe that healthcare should be nationalised. The way that Obama is tackling it is wrong though...

I've also heard stories of how it takes years to get a family doctor in Canada. And how somebody from Canada couldn't get treatment in time in Canada, flew down to the Mayo Clinic, paid out of pocket for treatment, and returned to Canada.

I'd much rather pay low income taxes and high hospital bills. When I get out of college (due to the profession I will be) I will have healthcare because I will have a job straight out of college. Most people don't, and go uninsured. If for some crazy reason I don't get hired out of college, I will have no healthcare. I will be completely fine with this, on a short term (<2 years) basis. I'd much rather save my money and use it to pay off loans than pay for health care that I probably won't use.
