I made a new thread for HostGator...

Mr. Bond said:
1. It depends what server you are on.
2. Yes it is true -😉- no matter what the problem, it's never their fault according to them, it's always a "user" even though for some reason the "user" seems to never be removed from the server...
3. I've asked and they haven't moved me yet -😉-
4. meh, I have NOT had 99.9% uptime, far from it, as I've said, that is only counting when it's completely down, not counting the countless hours of slowness -😉- http://forums.hostgator.com/gator193-pr ... 31467.html

It all depends on which server(s) you are on, some hosts just have some crappy overloaded servers which I happen to be on one, and Fowler can tell you all about that.

1: Right, and from that link you posted (assuming that's what server you are/were on) that is an older server that hasn't been upgraded or replaced. With it only having two CPUs it's bound to have problems.

2: Most of the time a problematic user is the problem though. In HostGator's defense, they can only fix that when they cause a server problem unfortunately.

3: Maybe you haven't asked the right person -razz-

4: Have you requested service refunds as compensation ?

1) Your server is not full yet and they are still adding new people to the server so over time load will increase as more and more site get put on.

2) As most sites on your server are new sites (some may have been old sites from different hosts but most are new people making a new site) they won't have alot of traffic although over time all the sites on your server are going to get more an more active aren't they (just like your site) so in a few months there may still be the same number of clients but all the sites are getting more hits as the word has spread more about the sites on the server and the people have finished making their sites and released them. This increase of traffic on all the sites on the server will increase the server load which will then cause the server load to be too high and when you have been on there for a while like MR Bond all the sites will be very active and load would have gone through the roof as most peoples site have grown and are using their fair share of resources. Because of the way hosts work the server would be overloaded if about 10% of clients used their full resource limit. People won't use their full resources when their site is new like the peoples on your server is although a few months down the road some people would be closer to their limits. If you are on an 8cpu server that is a big server and that would mean that there is alot of clients on it so when the all start to get popular it will soon cause load to rise as there is hundreds and hundreds of people on your server.

1: You're probably right. I have only been with HostGator for 3 months but I do keep a close eye on the Server and Memory loads every day and normally they are no higher now then they were 3 months ago. I'm not saying it won't go up over time, I'm just saying for the last 3 months it really hasn't. (Other than the few times someone abused the server)

2: Uh huh

EXACTLY!!! Proving what Fowler said, you are probably on a newer server... that doesn't have as many people / sites hosted on it as mine does, therefore, when a few sites get more traffic then they should on your server, your site doesn't come to a stand still, but mine will as the server is oversold and has too many people on it and can't handle traffic / load spikes as your can.

2: Most of the time a problematic user is the problem though. In HostGator's defense, they can only fix that when they cause a server problem unfortunately.

I've been given this bogus excuse for downtime almost every time (except twice), something is a little strange about that.....

-roll-

No, but I have requested to be moved to a different server, refer to question number 3.... and I was told that they woudn't do that as it wouldn't make a difference...

Lot's of people may have had / are having a great hosting experience with Hostgator, but I am not, and dealing with them has been nothing but a headache for me so no matter what, I will tell people not to host with them, same as I'm sure Fowler will tell people to stay away from lunarpages...

I believe I've said in my tickets, and even posted on their forums that my site being completely down isn't as much the problem is as it just being so slow to the point of being un usable, takes 15 minutes for cPanel to load, 10 minutes to post a message on my forums etc.

Why is this in debate?
If you carefully read the first 2 posts the stability and quality of this host is being debated...
