All my life I've been using Forumotion platform and their control panel. Became really good at it but a huge downside is I can't keep the database, it remains in their possession forever. Basically, I don't own the forum, they do.

So, I was thinking how to host phpBB forum somewhere? How you guys do it? What hosting do you use or is there a hosting that sets up everything for you?

Ask a friend to host it, or get a cheap shared hosting yourself. It only takes a few dollars a year to host a forum really.

Take a look at the offers on FP, there’s plenty. Or get in touch with @USHost247 - for shared hosting you can’t go wrong. 🙂

A lot of shared hosts will have control panels where you can one click install a phpBB instance fairly easily. The host I personally use is HawkHost.

Actually I chose now Flarum software platform. I really like it 😀
I've looked at Flarum before, it definitely is a little bit different layout than all of the "traditional" forum softwares out of the box. I have not poked around at that software yet though.

That's very true. You can set it up to have look as most forums do (categories/forums) or remain their new concept with tags. But you are right, it doesn't show any info about number of posts or I am still missing where is that 😀

It does seem that some modern systems don't have the old fashion "who's online" and "forum statistics" section. Which to be fair can often be a distraction for some visitor's as they judge whether they're joining or not based on stats...which folks that're doing that will still make a judgement call similar anyway.

Is there anything in the admin portal that gives you your statistics?

What I also like is that they allow you to take DB if you want to stop using it. Forumotion doesn't allow you that luxury and you are stuck with them for good.

Did you pick Free Flarum to host your forum? That's cool that they allow you to get a database backup! This way if you ever want to go to self hosting or switch platforms, you can!

@The Raven92 , if you need a forum hosted, just let me know. I can't give you Cpanel to it, but can give you an email and FTP for your domain. Would have to make your database as well.
I am currently working on a project with a guy who will give me domain, and xenforo licence. So this one is resolved but thank you 😀

I just registered on website and they have the hosting done for me. But luckly they allow database export, community is very nice. But I will be moving to Xenforo soon with new forum. Negotiating something.

I need help on this. I have a low budget and I do want to create a phpBB forum. I can't afford expensive hosting.
