Have you ever been with a host that used SSDs? Did you think it was worth it? I kind of wonder if it's just a marketing gimmick or if it actually makes a difference on a server. I know SSDs are awesome for personal computers, but servers are generally pretty quick anyway and I'm not sure if hard drives are much of a limiting factor.

I have had a hosting provider with SSDs. Very helpful! It seemed to help with some aspects of ping speed and uploads to the servers and databases.

When you're on shared hosting, you'll see the difference. Or rather using a CPU hogging software like Wordpress, etc.

SSD drives are awesome, I was on a host once with SSD drives and I never once had an issue with random slowness, etc. I went back to a normal host and I do have server blips more often, and it cannot handle the wordpress backend very well, especially when I have page builders and what not. It's not just the speed, SSD drives are more reliable as well, and helps the company as well as the other people you're sharing the server with.

I have used a SSD VPS on two hosts and I honestly see little difference but they charge quite a lot for it and I think it is not worth it. However, I also have SSD on my personal computer and I can feel it is fast but I think the difference will be small if you have a good computer. I guess SSD is faster than HDD but I think the difference is very small when you actually use it on your server or computer given your specs are good.

I haven't paid much attention to this to be honest. I will have to look out for this sort of detail in the future. I'm not that experienced yet when it comes to using hosting services so I don't have much to compare at the moment.

I see speed improvement and server load is very low. On HDD server crash frequently.

SSD for good performance.

SSD does definitely give a performance boost on every subject but the actual question that comes to mind is if the performance is noticeable. On a popular site, SSD would definitely be beneficial but until your site becomes traffic heavy, it is best (money wise) to go for HDD.

It really depends on how heavily the disks are being used. If you compare both with similar read/write loads which is quite heavy for the disks, then you should notice a difference.
