Sometimes people have a preference. I prefer a hotel especially if there's room service.

Hotels are usually more expensive and most are quite luxurious. You'll want to stay at a hotel when you're visiting someplace or on vacation. A motel is way cheaper than a hotel. But it's not a luxury at all. You'd be lucky if your motel had a TV in it. At a minimum, motels are gonna have a bed and a small bathroom. They usually aren't the most sanitary either. The only reason you'd want to stay at a motel is if you're homeless and need a cheap place to temporarily live, or you're on a road trip and need a place to spend the night, or of course, hooking up with the hot chick you met at the bar.

Neither matter when the ones you check into are disgusting. I went to Florida back in June and we stayed in several motels and I have to say that house keeping at most of them didn't do the best job at keeping them clean.

I prefer hotels when traveling with my husband but when traveling as a group with my family we either stay at a resort we found from HomeAway/VRBO..

We don't do AirBnB.. there are more consumer protections with a hotel and resort than their would be with somebody else's place..

I prefer a hotel over a motel because of the fear of bedbugs after reading a lot of different reviews. There is one place that I'm looking at that's more of a motel though, but it's on a lake and the reviews are almost all 5 star. It's tempting.

Having multiple traveling jobs, I’ve stayed at tons of hotels and motels. Hotels are typically the preference, but you can encounter issues like bedbugs at both. I just always checked Google reviews before I booked it.

Yeah, it depends on the location. If near a bigger city, there's more of a chance of bedbugs is what I've seen in reviews. The smaller town locations seem to take more pride in their place.

I never, ever feel comfortable sleeping anywhere other than my own home. If I had to choose, though, I'd choose a hotel. All I can think about when sleeping in a motel or hotel, though, is how germy it is. 😛

I rather like self accommodation 🙂

Well, it depends on where you're at that's going to determine if you would get a hotel or motel. If it's about choice, I believe that most people would go for a hotel as long as they can afford to pay for it. I wouldn't mind making use of either as long as it's neat.

Technically, motels have doors on the outside and hotels have them on the inside, but maybe that's just an American thing. Well, as someone noted, a hotel is way more fancy and I have been to those, but not as often.

Anyway, those $100 a night hotels are not those ones movie stars stay in, however. They just got a really good cooked breakfast and probably an indoor pool

For me,I prefer hotels.
Reasons being that hotels are more convenient than motels, though hotels are more expensive.

I would never stay in a motel unless it was an absolute last resort, lol. They're normally dirty, dumpy, and I have a fear of bed bugs.

It's not too often I stay in a hotel but I do prefer hotels over motels. Motels do not seem quite as comfy or homely as hotels do I find and room service I believe is only available with hotels so it makes sense to use a hotel over a motel.
