I tried logging in to Hotmail.com but all i get is the following message...

We're doing some maintenance to improve the service. We apologize for getting in your way. Please try again in a few minutes. If it's been more than an hour, tell us you're still waiting.

Its been days already...

Hmm, I haven't had this problem, but that may be where I get my e-mails on my iPod Touch.

I've not had a problem either but I'm using "Windows Live Mail" to access my hotmail email.

Just don't use Hotmail. Whatever downtime they're having right now would be an awesome time to switch. Their security is terrible and many accounts are being taken by it - yahoo or gmail are best 😉

Have to agree with Snowflake. Fowler even suggested to not use Hotmail in his security update announcement.

I know you said "opinion", but it's very unjustifiable. Why do they have terrible security? What reasons have made you conclude to that statement? I can't think of one reason which can only apply to Hotmail and not to Gmail or Yahoo.

(NB: I have Hotmail and Gmail accounts, so I'm not naturally leaning towards Hotmail)

Well, i had enough of them TBH. Other than their security, I do experience problems trying to login often.

Question, is it possible i transfer all mails from my Hotmail to my Gmail? Is Gmail safe?

There should be ways of forwarding your emails from hotmail to gmail but I don't know how to do it. I know it can be done though.

For one Gmail is a lot more secure when creating an account with the whole text to confirm thing.

Also hotmail has very bad support. I'll tell you right now they are the most useless and unsafe system that I've ever used.
An interesting story, my friend had an Xbox live gamertag, and my old hotmail account was the email on his gamertag, and my email got hacked somehow (no idea how, it was used as my crapbox, and nothing else on my computer got messed with, so i doubt it was a virus or trojan), and he tried to retrieve it after using it on vacation on another system, and he wasn't able to. After about a month of total bullshít with Xbox support and about 50 different Indian guys, I was told to contact hotmail, and then hotmail contacted me and told me to contact Xbox to get my email fixed, and then Xbox told me they don't have access to that, so then I spoke with one of their support managers who told me he emailed hotmail, and they took about a week to get back to him, just to say they can't do anything.
Safe to say because of their BS, he had to make a whole new gamertag and email address. They still have yet to compensate his account for the bullshít they put both of us through. Worst email service ever. They don't even explain how I got hacked, just told me "Please contact Xbox, TY"

Yes, but you would need to login first, so if you can't login, it would be impossible to do so.

I've had about two of my hotmail accounts hacked, and can say from experience that they have terrible support, and are just generally easy to hack into.

That doesn't make it a security issue if Fowler has said something. I have justified it here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=60839&p=662876#p662876
I was just saying that was Fowler's suggestion. 🙂 I'm allowed to point stuff out aren't I?
no
Not at all 😛

It just looked like you were backing up your statement with what Fowler said.

Irviding, I am terribly sorry and my condolences go out to you. 🙂 I don't think that has deterred the millions of genuine Hotmail users.

Chances are you have clicked on a password caching link in one your emails and someone has found that. It's not really hacking if they are given the password. Nothing is just "generally easy to hack into". Maybe your password was not secure enough; you logged in via a public computer and didn't log out. There are endless alternatives, yet the first thing people think is "hack".
