Hotmail down time?

Irviding, I am terribly sorry and my condolences go out to you. 🙂 I don't think that has deterred the millions of genuine Hotmail users.

Those millions really should stop using it with the shít support they have.

Maybe they don't need support 🙂

They do when their accounts are hacked and they don't do anything about it lol

Then go to the source of the problem. Why are their accounts being hacked, if they are even being hacked? Let's see: leaving a public computer whilst being logged on; clicking on phishing links and data caching links on marked emails; not checking who the sender is and replying; marking safe marked emails; replying to marked emails; not using firewalls; poor passwords; allowing others to use your account password; and so on. Before blaming Hotmail or any provider as the issue, maybe consider other options before hacking is the conclusion. I think the lack of simple education on Internet technology has really caused the issue here.

No I still blame hotmail. You have no idea how many hours of bullshít they put me through on their "online contact forms".

The reason still doesn't suffice for me to change all my accounts to Gmail etc. I have two junk email accounts, and one in proper use, and two Gmail accounts in use. Good day 🙂

Just saying my hotmail account was hack before (and they hacked into my FP by that). However, I switched to Gmail which holds my Youtube and other Google product login and I haven't been hacked.

We had alot of users have their emails taken over and over 90-95% were using hotmail and the way that the "kids" were doing it was because of Hotmail. It doesn't work with every hotmail account and only in some cases were people have not kept their details up to date. That is why i do not recommend Hotmail.

I also had the problem Joel describes on the first post of this thread. It went that way for about one week: I couldn't login to mail (nor even through IMAP), nor use MSN or any of the other Live services. I even thought my account had been hacked, but after several days of waiting I could finally login. When I login, no explanations followed: everything was back in place.

Just to make sure, I changed my password with a even stronger one (however, Live is stupid because they put a limit on the characters you can use on your passwords and my passwords sometimes can go over 30 chars).

Since that time, I only use the Hotmail account for MSN (for those friends that don't have an account elsewhere), and for email I only use GMail and the email of my own sites and servers where, at least, I have a bit more of control over what happens.

I recommend everyone who can setup their own email server to do it aand use it as his/her main email account, as long as it is reliable. Email addresses from "general public" providers are much more easier to hack (for example, when a hack is discovered on one provider, lots of accounts are compromised - including yours).

It depends on how they encrypt the passwords. If it's so long it might just overload the server when encrypting it. Also for all that think gmail is better look at their SSL's

Hotmail: TLS v1.0 128 bit ARC4 (2048 bit RSA/MD5)
Gmail: TLS v1.0 128 bit ARC4 (1024 bit RSA/SHA)

Last I remember the higher the bit = higher SSL encryption.

Also, I've used the support and their not bad at all, You just got to do it via official ways and like through their KB or support form.
