The past month I've been gone from almost everything, the reason why is I've been doing some DIY house renovations on my newly purchased house and it's been taking up ALL of my time. I was wondering who all has done renovations on your house themselves? For me, we've pulled up the carpet in the bathroom (yes... the bathroom), living room, and bedroom. Come to find out there was the original 1916 hardwood in the bedroom and living room. We've repainted, I fully cleaned, and hooked up the basement. I'm turned his full wall tool shelves into a beautiful bar, and a bunch of other things such as painting, refilling the plaster, and other misc things.
If you've renovated your house, how long did it take you, what did you do, and did you have fun doing it? I found that it's pretty fun to go through and destroy your house, then watch the transformation into a completely different looking house is both fun and quite invigorating.
For our first home we painted the entire house before our wedding and then I moved in after that. Our basement was partially finished and we put up walls with the help of my brother-in-law, but he wasn't very good at it so the end result was less than stellar.
For our second house we took down wallpaper that was in practically every room! That was a nightmare! We kept it in the living room and hallway because I had no idea what the walls would look like underneath it. We also put new self-stick tiles flooring in the basement, For the family room, my dad helped put up some new molding and we had an installer come to put in new wood floors as well as new tile in the bathrooms. The kitchen we had my brother-in-law do and this time he actually had a couple years' experience at doing them so he did a fantastic job!
For this house we live in now, I painted some things and that's it. It was pretty much ready to move into which was a nice break.
We were fortunate before we moved into our last 2 houses, we had time to do projects before we moved in. It was much less stress & hassle. Not having to move things around, worry about dust, etc. We did carpet, paint, but no tearing down walls or adding on.
It's not an easy project to renovate.
