I totally agree with @Cory on this one,In addition to social media, I think smartphones and similar technologies have made our attention spans shorter by being able to instantly flip from one app to the next.
I can honestly say I'm a culprit of this. If I'm browsing forums or social media and I see a large block of text, I'll usually dismiss it. I have had trouble staying focused on reading books throughout my life because of my short attention span. I think technology has only worsened this; it is both a gift and a curse. If there is too much information or it's formatted in large blocks of text, many people will not keep reading it.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't do it...I can honestly say I'm a culprit of this. If I'm browsing forums or social media and I see a large block of text, I'll usually dismiss it. I do the same exact thing! But also, every time I’ve actually stopped to read long social media posts, half the time it’s a spammy share with 25 people type of thing. I can’t stand that. 🤣I'd be lying if I said I didn't do it...
But I try to remember the old days and try really hard to read a full paragraph these days LOL
What I'm really bad at is watching short-form reel slop on YouTube and IG for hours. I hate that, too. I'm trying to stay away from that. It's easy to get invested in that.
Same here, I can get hook on short videos and get glued fast if I'm not careful.😂I do the same exact thing! But also, every time I’ve actually stopped to read long social media posts, half the time it’s a spammy share with 25 people type of thing. I can’t stand that. 🤣
I can watch short videos forever, though.
That's imperative, and depends on the type of features. Some forum users may want features, or they may just want the forum experience itself.Yes, its harder to get users to engage on forums instead social media sites. However, if you build cool things your users will be more engaged.
