How awful is this banner?

It really isn't as bad as you make it to be. 😛

I like it, and if it was my forum, I'd use it. 🙂

My forum, for example, I made 2 of the skins, the rest by my Graphics Admin.

The skins I made, I think are horrible, but members love them.

The banner, imo, is just brilliant.
 
Your being too harsh on yourself that banner is really good - use it and if thats your first attempt wow good on ya!
 
Nice job for a first go. It's not too complex, but is still pretty interesting. 🙂

The only thing I'm not sure about is the actual 'theme' of it. The banner is the first thing people see on your forum and it should somehow express what will it is about. Your graphic looks nice, but it doesn't convey any meaning.

Have a think about who is 'looking' at your banner. If it's new members, make one that new members will like and that will tell them what your forum is about.

Do you think I should add a catchline on it? Like how FP has "Website & Forum promotion at it's best!"
 
looks quite cool for a first attempt 😀 though i personally feel that it wud look better without graph type background

-lightened the grid
-changed the color of the people to gray
-added some more paint
-added question marks
-changed "forums" to white

What do you think? Is there just too much "stuff"? I want to make sure it's good before I put it up because my color scheme of Said Wicked depends on this banner.

looks good the only thing i wud say now is the font of "forums" it looks too slim against the banner and maybe a bold version of font will help 🙂
 
Oh wow, very nice banner.
Only constructivism criticism I'll say is to make it either blend seamlessly with the board's background color or have it fill the entire gray background area.
 
I say you should use it. It looks great. Find a theme is goes well with and even better!
