How badly do you think I would be affected if I were to change domains for AdminCentral?

I have recently acquired a really nice domain(Not prepared to reveal yet.) that I would like to use instead of http://admincentral.org.

AdminCentral only opened 20 days ago and as long as the move to the new domain is fast, I set up a redirect immediately and update all advertisements I don't see any big affect.

Give me your opinions.

I don't think it will affect you much since it is still new. Just make sure to keep admincentral.org as a redirect until members get acquainted with the new domain.

Oh, and be sure that the new domain is better. Haha

We can give better suggestion if we know the domain. But if you really believe it will be much better, then go ahead and change it, with the admincentral domain redirect to your site.

I think it depends what are you going to do with your old domain. If you gonna use it as a redirect then you will be fine. But if you let it expire, then imagine all backlinks that you will loose that are associate with your current domain "admincentral.org". I see you have around 9k backlinks and if I were you I wouldn't let it expire. Maybe, just use it as a redirect.

Sorry to be slightly off topic however, how do you see how many backlinks you have?

They're all from a limited number of C class IPs so wouldn't be much of a loss. You can check your site for linking domains/pages at a number of locations, one being the Yahoo! Site Explorer.

karoshio if the domain is better than the one you are currently using then I'd recommend going for it. One suggestion I would make is that your give your forum members a few days notice, before you make the switch. That way they won't be surprised or think that they've ended up at the wrong site.

Something else you could consider doing is posting a notice or even opening up a guest forum for a short while after you make the change. The objective here is to make it easier for members to contact you if they are having problems with their passwords or logging in at the new domain.

Good luck with it.

Thank you for the advice, Fergal. They are good ideas. I am having a hard time deciding. Something had inspired me to continue with the current domain. Hmm, back to thinking it is.

I don't think it would be too bad as it is new. Just update your members before you change on what is happening.

I think it would affect but not to much.. Just make sure you do it when it's not to active and you redirect the site to the new one.

Yes, it is a .com, although I don't know if I want to use it yet. I can get an amazing premium domain also that no one has purchased. Although that is $300.
