I know site promotion is very generic. There is a huge captive audience out there on social media. Having a brand account on Facebook and Twitter is a good start. Every blog post you make needs to be shared on each platform. Another platform for you specifically to use is Pintrest and Instagram they are amazing avenues for image and graphic heavy content.

You need to ensure your content is fresh, engaging and informative. It needs to create meaning for your users. Fresh content will be viewed upon favourably by the Google Spiders archiving the pages. Which will also improve your SEO ranking.

The key to site promotion is fostering relationships between other niche profiles that fit yours! You tend to find organic promotion takes a large time investment. You need to 'like' other profiles and photos and comment. You'll have a 40% chance of the profiles reciprocating the gestures.

The main point I want to get across is the increments in traffic will be small and slow. The bigger blogs and accounts will have been doing this process for years! and already cultivated the right relationships and agreements.

You'll find a good proportion of bloggers competing for the same audience will be very selfish and won't reciprocate your gestures. Which you can't be disheartened by, as these people aren't the type of people you want to associate your brand with.

Patience, generosity and hard work ethic is key in the blogging game! Keep at it and it will come 🙂

After having your website running, you need to promote your site in order to get traffic and revenue also. There're many ways to promote, for both free methods and paid methods.

Free methods such as: Doing SEO strategies, Social Media Content sharing, Youtube Sharing, Facebook Content, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest,...and many other channels that give you free using and promotions

Paid methods such as: Doing SEM such as Google Adwords, GDN, Solo ads, Facebook ads, banner ads,...

So it depends on your budgets that you will choose which methods that can give you the best effort, or you need to combine between free & paid methods in order to get the effective results

Hmm, getting traffic for free? Why not exploit, I mean take advantage of the social media? For sure you can a Facebook account and probably lots of friends there. Take note of your personal friends in Facebook and ask them to share your post on the promotion of your blog. If you don't get hits in your blog then you can forget your social media friends.
 
Post High quality content and well chosen topics.
Tell people in your social networks about your new post
Make your content visible to search engines.
Use appropriate tags.
Read and comment on other blogs.
Response to comments.
Update blog regularly.

The first tip I suggest is a real domain name. You can get sharing hosting so cheap these days usually with a free .com domain name. That really helps a lot. Those free domains will often give people a perception that it could be a site full of ads and no one wants to see that.

I agree with that! I'm still sold on using the .com. I know these new TLDs look cool but I read so many articles where people are still seeing them widely used for spamming activities.

My general rules when creating any type of website are always:
1. Use a .com domain name
2. SSL is a must (Let's Encrypt is free and it works!)
3. Key down the ads and obvious SEO tactics, be real
 
sharing in social media like facebook, promote in forums, link your site in blog comments.
