How can you rank higher on search engines w/ limited content

When you have limited content, for example, when it's still your first month or two and your still creating content, or your site contains mostly media because it's heavily a youtube based or game based site, what can you do to help promote your site and get higher ratings on search engines like google, yahoo, bing, ask, etc?

You can try and gain backlinks. For my site (LinkTyphoon), there really isn't any content. I focused on backlinks using "top forums" as my anchor/SERPs text, and now I'm ranked 7th on Google.com.

You can try article marketing, guest blogging, or making templates for websites with your link embedded in the template for people to use for free.

I am very limited in content but I mostly show up by posting my link as many places as I can legally. My sig on every forum, advertise on forums. Links to your site help a good bit too.
