So originally how did the idea of a computer come about? As it had to be invented as they didn't just fall out of the sky.

Who invented them?

What do you think of olden day type computers if you do a few second search on Google?

From what I understand from memory (and may be wrong) the first computers were made to calculate trajectories for artillery rounds during the world wars. They started with long lines of women who would each do a particularly small part of the calculation, but then progressed onto technology to do similar defense-related calculations. As usual, these types of technologies tend to be driven by war. 😛

I didn't know it was driven by war, but does make a lot of sense.

I know it was basically to be a calculator though, so that theory makes a lot of sense. Then it progressed to the idea of 'creating' our own things and the beauty behind it.

I think the idea of computer came from the computing machine that was built by Charles Babbage to do simple arithmetic calculations.

Here were a lot of important people who contributed towards making the computer what it is today. I guess it really depends on what you want to define a computer as. 😛 From what I read, Babbage definitely made something that was a milestone. I think Alan Turing though deserves the most credit for developing computing into a science.

I just pointed out the idea that was developed first to compute things using a machine rather than a human brain 😎
