I think most of us remember the time when we had the idea for our forum page/site.
With me, it was a Sunday morning in September 2011. I woke up in the morning and
had been dreaming about a concept. I saw the concept in my sleep, and could not shake it
after I had started my day. you know what happens, you start thinking, you start talking,
and one thing leads to another. What's your story?
Well...I wanted to start a naruto anime forum..but as it is about to end,I switched to One piece anime forum. It's kinda weird now that I think about it >.>
I came up with the idea for my website (and Linux distro) after I realized how disliked recent versions of Ubuntu were, and other distros had their problems (Mint releases new versions too often, Fedora uses GNOME 3 and crashes a lot on some machines. and everyone else has their own unique problems). Stenix will be a user-friendly Linux distro, keeping up-to-date packages while having a pleasing GUI and little difficulty on installing new applications.
The idea of my forum is hardly unique, far from it. I simply wanted to run and manage a forum and I liked the idea of a general chat forum. However it has grown to become unique and the community is diverse, and this makes it interesting to read the discussions.
This is a very cool topic, and I love the responses so far. As for me the idea came about last year, when Keiji Inafune the man behind the Mega Man franchise, started a Kickstarter project for his new upcoming game called "Mighty No. 9". I got the idea to create a fan forum based around this upcoming game, since at the time I opened my forum it was the only one online dedicated to the game. While there is an official forum for the game now, it's only open to people who backed the Kickstarter project, whereas my forum is opened to the public so even if someone didn't have the chance to back the project, they have a place they can call home to talk about Mighty No. 9 and get updates on the game the same time backers do. (And in the future talk about the game, and play co-op with other members too!)
A friend of mine made a gaming forum for fun years ago and asked me to join it to design the skin and banners and whatnot for it. Then after a week or two we changed some things to make it more suitable as a general gaming board and it went from there. We made it mostly as a nice place to relax and discuss a subject both we and others enjoy, rather than something super serious trying to cover every piece of news every moment of the day and stuff.
Back in 2009 when I was a mod on another site, a friend (who wasn't staff) and I were talking. At the time this site we were on was dying. The admins were pretty much gone. (One was on maybe once a week? The other, the root admin, hadn't been on in years.)
It was basically down to myself and another mod. But neither of us had enough power to really do all the things necessary to keep the site going. (We needed admin access. Though I didn't want to ask for admin. I didn't want to work to help someone else's site that was dying when they weren't even around. I felt like if I was going to do the work, I should just run the whole site.)
So we (myself and my non-staff friend) talked about starting a site to put our writing on (since at the time we were doing a lot of collaborative writing). Finally in early 2010 I started the site and began building it. I officially opened in February 2010 and I've been running it since then.
