How do you advertise forumotion

Oh yes that one. :lol: I got one from there but didn't know it was called a domain.

I felt like a facepalm but did a headdesk, lol.

I have a forumotion forum, and up to now I've submitted my url to all the significant search engines, wrote and published a knol on google, used google buzz, added the url to all my email addresses, and my twitter profile, forum profiles and joined FP. I also have a proper domain name, which I based on the most popular searches for my forum topic. Up to now I've achieved 23 members, so I think it's sheer determination and aggressive promoting. On joining FP I hope to pick other forum founders brains on how they're promoting their forums, so I think FP is a great vehicle for doing just that. Best of luck!

TBH, you can't succeed with a ForuMotion, unless if you created it 2-3 years ago. Its just a bad piece of software, and you can't move it anywhere, legally. You will just fall into a deep whole. The best option is to stop using it now, and move to proper hosting, or at least a host which gives you a DB.

I'm sorry I beg to differ on that last comment, I'm running a Forumotion site and it's doing damn well!
It's only been going 6 months and already has good member to post ratios? I think it's all about getting the right advice, finding things that work for your site and dogged determination to make it succeed. 🙂

I beg to differ on that. With all due respect, a forum with 18k posts in the real foruming world, regardless of time, is considered very small. The largest forumotion forum has 1 million posts and after that, around 3-5 forums have succeeded with about 100k to 500k posts. After those 5 forums, there is a gap of about 700 thousand posts until the next forum. Its hard to succeed in forumotion.

But really, good luck though it will be tough.

Completely agree with dotDavid. Forumotion is *not* good software for a beginner to use, because it doesn't give you a fair playing field compared to people who run "real" versions of the scripts and have the power to make it as awesome as possible, or the flip, destroy it with a bad edit.

Forumotion is like training wheels for a bike. Sure, they can be great for awhile, teach you the basic properties of a forum, but if you try to use them when out in the real world people will just laugh at you.

My advice; stop using Forumotion now and start learning how to setup a "real" script on a "real" web host. It will help you much more long term if you really enjoy forums. If not, then you're in the wrong hobby field.

So... the next largest forums have -200k to -600k posts? :lol:

But yeah I agree with you, if you actually care about your forum don't go with forumotion, it's shit. Then again, pretty much all free forum hosts suck. A domain and hosting will cost you less than $50 a year with a good host like hawkhost or stablehost, why be cheap?

Agree there, not following on the numbers 😛 We're in negative numbers here. XD

...There some database of forumotion forums that lets you see those post counts of all the boards? Or is it just that you know what forumotion forums are around? Just wondering how you knew there were only 4 big ones. {I'd believe it--forumotion, though I've never used it, seems to get bad marks even among other free hosts...}

Haha, realized that last night once I went to sleep 😛

What I meant was the top forum has 1 million posts and then after that, there are those 3-5 forums, and from the top forum, there is a massive gap of 700k posts.

@Acorn, I have asked. The largest being Hide Codes Galore. The next 5 include Geek Police, Forumansion and the forumotion support forum (off the top of my memory).
