How do you choose a theme?

I have a mental list of what I look for depending on the site. I have never used a SMF theme as the default though, they have all been ported, but maybe with the new 2.0 RC2 theme, that may change my mind.

Completely based off the community it's for. I wouldn't put a light skin on a warez community forum. I wouldn't put a dark skin on a animal rescue board. That's the first thing that matters, then I check to see if there's any themed skins that will work. From there I just use Google or Spyka's site ~lol~

I usually go for simple to understand post icons & clean board colours

It really is dependant on what the forum is about i tend to look at colours that represent the forum topic and base it from there or modify a theme to make it suitable 🙂

Im a big fan of dark themes but i try to give users a chose i know how hard it is for some people

I like professional neutral colors that aren't too light but aren't too dark.
