How do you do it?

Offer something to the guests that would make them want to join. Stuff like member only boards and such.

That just pisses the guests off. Well, for me it does.
Agreed, I would close the window, not register..

Same, when no boards are showed it either says:

1. Low activity,
2. All spam posts,
3. Illegal content.

Just my opinion.

OK,you can see my board, but you can't read topics. Is that fair? Or should I let the see topics as well?

It's fair, if there's a mod for zeta (ive never used zeta before) that allows guests to read the first post in a topic but not any other posts that'd be perfect.

I don't know of a mod like that, but if anyone does no one that works on Zetaboards, can they tell me?

Thanks for the tips everyone.

I still need a little help though, anyone got anything?

I would let guests see everything, but make a members board only for members and say in the welcome message register to see the members board!

One thing you never do is hide your boards. How will guests who are considering joining know what they are joining? Also, as I've said before, patience is the key. It can take upwards of many months and even years to make a forum successful.

Try to promote your forum in as many places as you can. For example, if you frequently visit other forums, place your link in your signature.

I agree too. I dislike guessing games. I don't mind real life guessing games, but I hate them when it comes to forums. I mean, what if I stumble upon a site, wonder "what's behind this door?" only to find out it's just a load of spam. I joined up with one such site, and it was spam mania. I ended up getting banned from there by a staff member who had a grudge against me on my own forum, but I seriously didn't care as I didn't like that site anyway, so it didn't upset me none. But really, no to closed doors. Hiding some forums are okay, like maybe the Staff lounge if you have one and the Elite Lounge if you have one of those, but people need to know what they're getting into, otherwise.

May I add? One thing I enjoy doing is joining up with forums that are the same genera as mine and posting my link in my signature (if that's allowed, of course). That'll attract members as well.
