What are your feelings towards law enforcement where you live?

Do you think they're making a difference or do you feel they're causing more problems than they solve?

I sometimes see em get groceries. The police station is 150 meter from where I live, but don't bother to go there if they steal or ruin your bike. We had a guy live here in the apt. Someone saw him ruin my bike. He stole the Mac from my neighbours. We asked for camera's. No no. There must be privacy for the thief. I don't think they make much difference, but they're kind. They don't even give you a fine if you bike without a light.

We've got a lot of ramraid issues but I guess the police's frustration is that they arrest the people but because they're youth the courts choose not to do anything. Sometimes the police don't do anything about stolen stuff or whatever because they know the courts will do absolutely nothing.

I look at it this way, what would the world look like if we got rid of them?
I don't agree with some of the things they get away with but without them, we would be in trouble.

This is always an interesting topic. I have a few different view points when it comes to police officers. First off, I believe that there are a lot of good police, and a lot of bad. Majority of the time the good cops outweigh the bad ones. I think that cops in America need a lot more training in certain situations. But I can't imagine being in there shoes and having to make split-second decisions. Overall, I think that we need the police, and they are a good asset to have in public. If we were to get rid of them then the world would be chaotic and in ruins as mentioned above.

they scare me....

don't know why, but i get so nervous when i see one, or one comes anywhere near me

I support the cops & don't care for defunding the police. I think they need better education & training.

Some years ago, youths in my country staged a protest demanding the disbanding of the police force because of brutality against the youths. Nothing has changed much though. The youths hate the cops on my country.

Ungraithful job, that's what it is. In all parts of society we have coruption and missue of power, police is no different. But, keep in mind that without them there will be anarchy and that will lead of rape, murders, robbing etc.

That they're individuals, just like the rest of us. Cops are not a hive mind any more than any other demographic. Yes, some cops abuse their authority, some cops are racist or otherwise biased. But I don't believe that's the majority, especially given that there are 700,000 cops in the United States. If most of them were bad, you'd know it.

The trust in police is pretty high over here, probably helped by the mandatory 3 year bachelor's degree that includes a focus on deescalation techniques etc. Machismo is not that big within the police force anymore, and they are generally good at approaching the public (and that includes those breaking the law) with a decent amount of respect. Yet, there are always cases of abuse of power, maybe especially in contact with young people of foreign decent in the larger cities, and there has been a few horrible cases of police brutality, which of course makes me a bit more skeptical in meeting police officers.

Bad apples exist in the profession. However, I'm wondering if people expect cops to be like Mr. Rogers. It's not going to happen, nor should it happen.

However, it could be true government corruption has ruined a lot of places and cops have to clean it up.

Anyway, I don't agree with unjust laws and some are arrested for those.

There are cops in my husband's family, so I have great respect for them. They work hard, put their lives on the line and don't deserve a lot of flack that the media and some groups throw their way.

Unfortunately the police force in the UK, particularly the London Met police have in recent times gained a reputation for being institutionally racist, misogynistic, homophobic and corrupt. My sister works for a charity hotline which gives advice to rape and domestic abuse victims. The overwhelming majority of calls they get are from partners of serving police officers. I am currently trying to raise a defence fund for a friend who has been framed by the police.

The area where I live in the UK has no police presence at all, the only serving police officer in this area is now doing life for rape and murder. Our nearest police station is 25-35 minutes away by car but only during office hours or 45-55 minutes for an out of hours emergency. Many crimes such as shoplifting, theft and to some extent even rape, are no longer investigated. This is a poster currently on display at our nearest police station.

While I am sure there are many police officers who start with good intentions, I am equally sure an alarmingly large proportion should be residing inside a jail cell. This is typical behaviour even at the highest level...

There is a huge breakdown in society in a lot of places in the US. Cops have to deal with this problem. It's a complex issue and not everything is the fault of the local population.
