I think today's remakes are just a bunch of copy cat films that someone tried to do better than proceeded in slapping the first film's title on it.

Most Remakes flop in the box office. The real version still exists, so there fore you can't fix what isn't broken and that's what Hollywood hasn't earned yet. People will always love the original. Its like they are working towards quick cash strategies or something. I wish they'd give us something new.

If they want to do a remake, why not start with old films from the 50's and 60's that actually need to updated? Now a days they want to remake everything from the 80's to early 2,000. wth?

Remakes are okay. But it's already a given that the original will be better in any case. Nobody should expect the remake to be better. If everyone realized that no remake is better then the original, the remakes would have so much better ratings. You shouldn't even compare an original to a remake, because we already know that the original is better.

BTW, there's so many cases where people don't even know that the movie is a remake, like Heat, Vanilla Sky, Ocean's 11, 3:10 to Yuma, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...There's lots, some may even argue that the remakes are better then the original:

So IMO remakes are okay but people should lower their expectations and should never even expect the remake to be better then the original, even though there are some cases where the remake is better. And I think they shouldn't really do remakes on dramas, maybe some old action/sci-fi movies where they can better the movie by today's CGI and movie production overall. But they can't do anything better on a drama today in comparison to the 50-60s.
Anyway, I wouldn't have a problem with a remake of ALL the movies from the 50-60s or whatever. That will just give as a wider choice, you don't have to watch all of them.

Only some remakes are actually decent. Usually it's just people trying to recapture films in better quality, etc. that it doesn't really appeal to me much. The originals are what give the remakes their credit.

Very true. Some movies need a good remake, but as far as other movies like Total Recall, did not. Notice the new one flopped and got bad reviews or the Amittyville film with Ryan Reynolds that crashed and burned.
