How do you get members?

I have goten a lot of mine at my last forum through ad forums. A lot of the others came through post exchanges and package requests.
 
I don't seem to be getting any members but I advertise though advertising forums and placing my link on some topsites. I even make my own topsites to try to encourage visitors to at least that.
 
Promoting my forum on other forums usually does the trick, although i get quite a few members from Google & Yahoo.
 
I have gotten many of my forum members through the use of contests and posting on other fourms. its hard to get members to sign up if they are just looking unles you have a lot of active tops and posts. i mean over a thousand or so.

You're site has to be about something many people are interested in. If its a site where there are tons of others, you need to load it up with lots of content, and have a template which stands out. Pretty much, no one wants to join a site with 100 posts over a month period and 3 members. You gotta get on there, and really put everyhting and everything on your forum. Then using free advertisment forums like this one to get your message out there.

Just dont break rules, because that usually has a negative affect on members going to your site.

I get members by mainly promoting on forums. I quite often spend about a hour doing google searches and find as many forums to advertise on as possible and open them in tabs then after a while (usually when i have so many tabs open my computer starts to go slow -lol- ) i go through every one and register on each one then open my emails in another window and activate all the accounts then close that window and go back to the first one and copy and paste a pre made post on each one then bookmark it after so it is quick to return later and bump every so often. I have even made a webpage that i use which has all the info on - http://www.forumpromotion.net/advertise.html

It has what i use to bump my topic if i already am part of a forum, the topic itself if i am starting a new one and finally my signature -lol- It does make life alot easier as it saves typing it out everytime and you can see it in your browser.

This takes a while but works and helps more people to know about us.
 
Absolutely, at the beginning try and get mates and family to join, boost up your numbers a bit...guests like to see an active forum.

Next up is to make interesting categories...you know, something that will encourage guests to register and be apart of your community.

Keep advertising on different forums and at every possible oppertunity of dropping your link in a conversation but dont spam.

Submit your site on all of the big search engines, they are very useful, once you get high enough on google, people will be joining your site through Google...very handy.
 
um ad forums.. although you find most members are pushing their own forum.. until they join yours and realise yous is the epitome of awesome haha ~cool~

:lol: Same here, my comp gets slow when i am advertising, as i have lots of tabs open, so i can just make it easier which to post on etc

So i know the feeling lol

Also i get members with the help of google and just advertising
 
I find other forums with a similar subject to mine post on them and put a link in my signature, that will get you at least some visitors. Also try and get sites to link to you and set up a myspace page for your forum, that has helped me.
 
Well....I dont! 😀 I think I may start buying advertising space on some Runescape website, then put google ads on mine so I get money back for it, I have to figure out if google ads are allowed on freeforums though.
 
I was wondering why so many forums are afraid to share links
between users. I think that defeats the whole purpose.

If you want to put ads on your forum you need to move to advanced hosting.
 
Arghhh well dang. Maybe when I get some active members I will do paid hosting.
