Do you hire them by an application, or do you promote a staff member to a administrator? How do you go about doing this? 🙂

At the start, I might have one application spot for a trial admin. After that, I promote from the team.

I normally promote a staff member to administrator as I would have already worked with them and know that they will do a great job.

I hire people whom I know are very trustworthy or I promote excellent members who are already a part of my staff team.

I usually have a hard time hiring Admins because it's so hard to trust anyone anymore. I usually just promote the best staff/team leaders etc/ on my team to an admin if they want the promotion.

Normally, I like to do one of the following:

  • Make someone I know an Administrator because I know they are trustworthy since I've worked with them on another site somewhere else.
  • I will promote a person that is already on the staff team to an Administrator because I've already worked with them on the forum.

Exactly the same way.

I usually find someone that I have worked with in the past and reach out to them to see if they might be interested. I'm hesitant to hire someone new because the administrator is such a high role.

I can't say that I've ever hired other administrators. I've hired moderators and promoted them global moderators but I've never actually ever hired another person to do my job as an administrator. Languavel is the biggest project I've ever been a part of personally as an administrator so I can't really compare it to anything I've done before. I'm just not comfortable with giving permissions that I have to someone else or could I expect someone else to do what I'm supposed to do as an owner. The only exception I would say is if I have someone helping me out with the coding/programming side of things. That area is not my strong suit so I don't mind giving someone I trust then administrative rights.

I honestly don't hire admins, the staff "hire" themselves. I eventually start giving more and more permissions to users, and they basically evolve into an admin overtime. I never usually hire admins right off the bat, they have to have another position on the forum before I think about an admin position for them.

My admins are also an extension of me almost, so I have to be able to get along with them. 😛

I don't 'hire' admins.

Admins are either a co-founder at the start or promoted from the staff ranks after a period of time and as the need arises.

I used to hire admins through job boards like the one here and while I never had any bad luck (and actually got one really good one when I first started running forums), it's just too risky these days and I'd rather find someone I can trust.

I have issues hiring people to be an administrator, because of the risk that the person would do something without my consent, and try to form the board in the way that they think it should run.

If I ever do hire an administrator, I usually hire people I trust or have been on staff for awhile, that I know enough about their abilities, to give them the opportunity to be one.

I hire Admins that I know can do a good job, have been on the forums for a while and are trustworthy. I never hire anyone as an Admin if they ask to be an Admin and haven't even crossed my radar in terms of being a potential candidate.

I might hire someone when I started a forum, to help me out with activity and such. Whenever a forum gets active, I don’t think you should just pull people out of the clear blue and hire them to an administrative possible. Rewarding an already hard working staff would better, in my opinion.

Typically, I don't. I'm usually the only person that does admin related things, so I keep myself as admin. Sometimes, if I start a project, I start a project with another person and we will co-admin. However, that is rare.

I don't ever hire admins. I have a lot of down and dirty css and html in the backend, and if someone else tried messing with it, it wouldn't end well. Also, there is nothing I would need someone else to do that I couldn't have a mod do.
