What tactics and methods do you all use to make your message forum topics hot? What I mean by hot is topics than turn into several pages of replies!

Power words are good to use for making hot topics 🙂 But do you do anything in terms of replying to keep it going at all?

Simple. I'm hot, and everything I post is hot. 😎

Good titles and good content is usually the key. :great:

I think mainly topics that can have discussion rather answering a question and that's all that can be said, they work better in my opinion.

the tread topic should be a topic that all members can relate to and get involved in

From what I see so far, hot topics usually are:
  • Related to something routine. For example, the routine random chat thread, what-are-you-listening-to thread and its family (I'm sure you know what I mean).
  • Related to very popular name/thing. For example, talking about Apple products, about fast food, or about newly rising pop star.
  • Related to specific fan-base. For example, a bunch of sushi fans talking about sushi and awesome restaurants, or those who like fashion talking about it.
But also, what keeps them going is if one or two people keep bumping it. That's where administrators and staff members come in, especially for the second point. Reply to what people write in the thread, add your response, and ask questions again at the end of the post. At least that will help to keep the discussion going. The poster you quoted may not reply back, but who knows maybe someone else will reply, haha. There's no really an easy way to get hot topics other than diligently adding new thoughts to it to encourage further discussion. It's hard to do alone, so get your staff members to help, lol.

Update the topic with more relevant questions or information (for example if it's about a movie you could post a new trailer, etc), ask members to explain their post if their vague, and keep the discussion going =]

Update the topic, bump the topic, and let it open for others to reply.

Well, first you get a match, lighter or just rub two sticks together.. then get some paper.. and once the fire starts.. that is how you get a topic hot!

I couldn't help myself..

For real though.. To get a topic to transform into a hot topic.. you just have to make a topic that all of your members will love to post in... So it has to be something that at least one person really loves.
As long as there are two people going back and forth, you can make a topic hot.
This happened on my previous forum, me and my friend just went back and forth on a topic about the video game Dragon Warrior 8.. we were talking about it so much that we made 8 pages out of it! It was just the two of us too!
As long as it's something everyone has a say in, or if it's something everyone loves. Those can be the successful way to make a hot topic.
