Hey everyone!
I have been suggested to press release my website, but I am not sure how to do it correctly, any insights? Like I do not know the correct formatting, and things of that nature.
On a basic level, write a press release about your site's launch or big news and send it to journalists.
A google will show you how to write a release and you can find services to pay for someone to do it
Then you want to find PR directories to publish the release and other locations so journalists will find it. Again, Google is your friend there.
But unless your website is very innovative or you've got some big news that newspapers, blogs, etc. would be interested in, it's usually a waste of time.
I agree with spyka. You need to have something really newsworthy to get the media interested enough. But at least you could get some backlinks from sites with decent PR. If you forget PRWeb, which being the biggest player will try to get more and more money out of you, there are plenty of sites with free press release services, so it might be worth giving one or two a go.
Sending a press release to journalists or anything like that is pointless. It'd pretty much just be ignored. (Unless you happen to be a really big name celebrity or large company launching a new product/site.)
But I think that writing a bit about your site (like a press release type document) could be useful for advertising. So if you wrote a piece for a press release and posted it in places like here in the "What's going on" section. It could help to get the word about your site out. Plus it'd show how professional your site is.
