It cannot be denied that part of internet life is spamming, trolling and scamming. In your forum, what do you do with such negative posts? My friend who is a long time admin of their organization's website and forum does not delete such posts. He had created an invisible board where he moves spams and other non beneficial posts. Of course, he blocks the IP of the offending poster.

If staff, remove all posts, ban user then go back to what I was doing. Such people don't rate very high on the care meter so they don't get any more attention then is necessary to rid the board of them. Attempting to reason with them is likely to be futile as such people have long since lost any capacity for reason. You have to be completely without reason to actually believe spamming and trolling people on a board is a good idea.

If not staff, shrug my shoulders and continue what I was doing. I trust staff can tell w hen they are getting spam attacked and don't need anyone pointing out that guy who is littering the board with spam. Their topics and posts tend to stick out especially when it's not normal for one user to be making so many posts in such a short period of time. As for trolls, I can see why I might actually report something to give staff the idea of what they have on their hands bu that's about it. There's no real point in trying to reason with the character so ignoring him is your best bet if you aren't staff.

There's always the ban hammer. It's totally justified for spammers and a-holes.

Delete the spammer/trolls content and permanently ban them. 🙂

Alternatively, I put them in an enclosed group & area of the forum no one but them can see so if they want to spam and post to their heart's content, they may do so. I've found this prevents them from making new accounts and trying to get around this because they can still post, but that's all they can do and they are the only ones who see their posts or even this particular section. 🙂

My site has an build in system that deals with them and if spam passes by that then I and the staff remove them

Xenforos spam removal system helps you to remove the entire content by the spammer, ban the user and compare his IP with the IP of all other accounts - Th easiest method 😀

IP6 is the new in town lol yet some based forums can not read long IPs

Remove the offending messages, and ban the person. If they were a proper member, I don't delete their entire post history because despite what they might have done, deleting them completely feels a little vindictive. We've had to ban someone this week. It's something that festered over time. Basically, the forum states "no bigotry" among other things. This guy skirted around the rules for years, never doing enough to get banned, but thinking that just because we created Sakuga City, we were going to lift the rules on respecting other members. We try to have a community that welcomes all political viewpoints, but it's hard when you have someone who posts racist propaganda videos as fact and causes crap everytime he posts.

Staff had enough. Surprisingly people who are both left and right politically think we made the right decision. There wasn't a backlash like I expected. Sometimes you just have to do what is right for your forum. 🙂 I think we did the right thing this week.

The best way of reacting to those sorts of things is don't. Take care of them and move on is the best route one can take.
