You don't ban people... People ban themselves. If they break the rules enough to be banned then they have got themselves in the situation and in theory banned themselves. I don't really feel anything when banning people or removing peoples PM permissions or anything like that as it is their fault and they deserve it and their actions brought me to do it.

This is such a good point. I agree completely. At the point where it is deserved, the moderator who does the banning is only doing their job. Th person to "blame" is the user himself.

I think I would laugh while banning someone that posted something like that, but I have had to ban people I thought were friends, and that hurts. I will do it without hesitation, though, if I thought it would protect the sanctity of the community.

My forum is not one of the most active ones, but even I had a spammer posting crap and advertising throughout the forum. Had to ban him, cause he wouldn't care about warnings.
