How good are you at maintaining your PC / laptop? How often do you do it?

I'm sure that most people know the importance of cleaning dust by now. Especially on the laptops. But, what about thermal paste? Did you ever change it? How often do you do it? I used to apply a new one on my laptop every 3 or 4 months. I have been using laptop for quite some time because of my studies. Now, back to desktop. I clean it at least once a month, either by vacuuming safe parts and using blower around sensitive parts.

As for maintenance of system itself, I cant say I have really been doing much lately. On laptop I used to do it pretty often, but not so much on the desktop.

How about you?

There's no reason to redo thermal paste unless it was poorly done to begin with, or if you need to unseat the heatsink. Thermal compound doesn't degrade over time; it's just silver once it's set.

As for my filters, I clean them about once every 3 months.

Hmmm, I was told otherwise, even worse, by a computer store clerk lol

I knew about the issue that it might be poorly done, but I was told I should change it from time to time. Didn't really bother researching, I mean, hearing it from someone that works in a PC store, one would think he knows his stuff

I clean my laptop once in 6 months when I really feel that I am having difficulty with my keys.

I used to do it once a week in my other house as it was getting allot of dirt and now I tend to do it 5 times a month and I I keep an eye on the settings and performance.

I have an good past and air flowing into it that keeps it cool, yet the dust I tend to clean and remove

I don't remember when I last cleaned the interior of my laptop. I subscribe to the adage that if it aint broke, why fix it? It's not easy to clean the inside and I'm afraid that something can break there. All I do is to wipe the surface with moist cloth to remove dust and clinging dirt. The same with our home desktop, we don't clean it regularly.

I'd say I'm pretty good at it. I dust out the vents regularly and scan for viruses and malware a few times a week. It's not too difficult to take care of a laptop nowadays. 🙂 they're pretty compact compared to what they were back in the day so moving them about is much easier.

I clean my laptop and desktop using a cotton cloth. I also use a vacuum for removing the accumulated dust. One of the better ways is to keep the laptop covered when it is not in use this slows the accumulation of dust.

Well, if you don't think you can do it on your own, you should take it to a PC store once in a while. Those services don't really cost too much. This is a case you should be doing, ESPECIALLY with laptops. Dust can cover the vent quite easily and the whole thing will heat more and more. That's never a good thing.

Dayum, that's quite a lot. Over here its around 12 GPB if the conversion is right. Can be found for less, too. That's quite a lot of money for such a simple task.
