I think a good pitch for a forum can convince a larger percentage of people to join or even look at your forum and posts vs just pasting a link all over promotional forums and websites. People know what they are expecting on your forum when they finish reading your pitch

This video summarizes effective pitches pretty well.

I'm not sure what he means by going "Long". In my opinion a pitch should be quite short, 1 - 2 minutes at most. It should be in simple language and make the benefits of your forum easily understood.

It's useful to have a good elevator pitch prepared for your website or business. This is a brief simple description of what you are offering, that could be given on a trip in an elevator, i.e. in less than two minutes.

I'm not really sure what he means in going long as well. I think he means being confident, and knowing how to convince people to like a product, so they have a "longer" positive impression about you and your product.

Pitch is always pretty important when trying to sell a product.
I've worked many sales jobs. Working at McDona'ds I was fine because everybody wants Macca's and those who don't don't go there.
But when I worked in B2B telesales I could never get through to the person and never had a good enough pitch.

It's all about getting peoples attention and luring them into a sense of friendship so that they take time to notice what you're advertising.

Sunny you're absolutely right. Introducing yourself to someone and being friendly is the best way - you've got to hook them. When I was going around the market in Kusidasi I remember all the people running their stalls would always shake your hands, ask you where you're from and when I said Britain they go 'oooooh,' friendliness made me like them and quite a few times I actually bought something or felt compelled to buy something from them.

People that just shout at you as you walk past don't get a look back from me. It's all about connecting with the other person I think, that's the psychology eh
