How long before you shut down a forum?

How long would you run a forum unsuccessfully, such as without many members or much profit, before you declared it a fail and shut it down? And, what would you likely do with the forum?

I'm not very patient, so to say, haha. So at most probably only one to two months if things don't really improve at all despite my efforts. Most probably I will just shut it down. If there one or two potential members I may decide to offer them to take over the forum if they want, but in most chances I just close it down.

It depends. Some forums that I make don't even get a full release to the public because I change my ideas on what I want to create. So if it was something that was FULLY launched then I typically stick with it for a long time or sell it to someone else and hope they make it a success.

Other projects that I keep private can be closed pretty quickly once I realize an idea is not as great as I once thought.

For me, it's only closed if I say it's closed. I have in the past had my forum lukewarm with only a few posts a month.. I've done that many times before, because some times you just need a break.
The only time I ever close a forum is when I want to.. when I don't have the drive for it anymore.
My forum has been slow for the past few months because I have been doing other things.. but now I am going to be picking it back up with new themes and then I'll get to advertising again, which I haven't done since like Summer 2012. lol

It really depends, if the forum is dead where I am literally the only person logging in from time to time, and even I am no longer interested in the forum, I usually will just shut it down. I'd give it about a month and if the forum hasn't picked up any, I'd just shut it down and move on. It happens. 🙁

I did so for a few months before deciding it was more trouble than it was worth. At the time I thought I had a good idea, turned out it was a bad idea. Hit and miss. These things happen.

Most likely about a month or two, and the forum isn't really all that active. I would eventually give up after trying my hardest at attempts to bring it back to life. Why even bother if others don't try to be active as well? Managing a forum is far from easy. 😛

I think it just depends on the forum and niche. It can take a while for a forum to take off, but you also shouldn't waste your time on a forum that isn't going to succeed, if that becomes clear
