At what point did you stop using post loop and similar pay per post services?

I buy a small points package once a week on average so that when users visit my forum they see that there's recent activity that week

But I'm wondering at what point I can expect to not need to pay people to post and have people that actually want to be there?

I'm up to 1,000 posts already but still no activity unless I do post exchanges or use post loop.

Someone mentioned in another thread that getting to 10,000 posts is the "turning point"

What's your experience in this matter?

I never bought traffic so I can't actually tell you this. I would tell you to do packages to where you have a good amount of content posted by other members as well as yourself. Once it's enough that new members could join and respond to several threads - I would slow down on packages and work on advertising further.

So for example, once you hit 1,000 posts make a milestone thread here at Forum Promotion ( viewforum.php?f=43) , as well as updating your Promotional Directory thread.

Maybe look at finding members from Twitter since many people on Twitter enjoy the things your forum is about. 🙂

Honestly I only pay some people here at FP to do some posts. Most of the content that is generated is from myself, another admin, and our moderator. We hired a moderator specifically to contribute to the our forum.

I would just say that you can't give up. If you aren't putting in the effort to create new content then don't expect your members to is always a good rationale I thought.

I'm fairly new to running forums. Currently I do post exchanges, I got my first posting package here on FP as well, I'm also trying to get advertising on this site as well. I'm looking forward to the future of my forums 🙂

I think social sharing is best but there is no guarantee for active post. I do not pay for advertising.

Good topic and social advertising..

..You can not make more without help of others, working alone takes time..

Well, seems like I am the only one here who have spent hundreds of Dollars in order to advertise my new auction site, and spent additional in order to purchase promotional items in hopes of improving it. Though NOTHING seemed to work... Alexa rankings went up, but since that's nothing more than visitor traffic rank, it doesn't really do much in making any site accessible. It's the Google rank that I am after, but none of the paid traffic that promises it worked, and turned out it's just a scam in most cases, and it's like throwing your money out. Part of the reason that I am searching for these free advertisement forums that ARE active and have a lot of active members, and I think this place is one of them. I hope I get to see some difference soon.

I never really paid for traffic.

Just got to stay patient, keep posting useful articles/posts, advertise where and when you can and traffic will eventually come by your site.

That is the way i've always done it.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of post loop and I haven't used their server for a few years now. I prefer to use the forum wheel because their writers write a lot better than post loop's writers and they're based around quality content where post loop isn't. Paying people to post very frequently is not a great way to build a forum. What you need to do is focus on attracting new backlinks, getting actively involved on social media and start writing blogs/articles on other sites. This can help you attract some daily posters. Getting 10k posts is not actually a turning point, but reaching over 100k posts is. A turning point is when you don't need to be actively posting on your forum everyday because your users and staff members are posting a lot.

How many posts contain over 500-1k total words though? Your main focus right now shouldn't be on your stats, but you should be focusing on building your content, promoting, and networking with other site owners that are involved in your niche.

For the few months on my forum, alongside regular staff posting and post exchanges, I used Postloop to add in some new starter content. I requested only new threads to spark discussion. On Postloop I set the minimum rating at around ~4.5 and was able to get posts from people very knowledgeable of my niche.
