How long do you require members to be on your forum before you allow them to apply for a staff position?

I personally tried to have it set always to someone who had been a member for a month or so. If I invited them from another site and I trusted them a lot, I would allow an exception, though.

We don't accept applications; they're usually hand-picked, and those of which tend to have been around for at least a couple years.

That's the way to do it, thats what I would do. I suppose there is circumstances where you couldn't do it that way though.

I had to have applications before as I had an very new website with low traffic, but now I don't allow it since the applications have worked but had to members left from the staff ranks and may have another one leaving also.

I did pick one guy but that was as I'm an manager on his website, Well he's not listed as an staff but has staff powers. Next time I rather keep on going and pick the most respected and active person

I let all members having a membership lasting not less than 3 months to be on the staff team.

I think it depends on the size of the site and how long it has been running for. A small or relatively new site is going to have to hire newer members on their staff. Many well established sites, though, seem to hire staff who have been on the site for few years.
