How many forums use a lottery?

To prove someone wrong as they think only FP has the lottery does your forum use the lottery and how does it work for you?

I don't, and very few forums I actually go to effectively use a lottery, let alone a points system.

More of a kids thing, no offense or anything. Guys like TAZ, Admin Extra, even Digital Point. None of them use a lottery, let alone a points system. NamePros is the only one I can think of (haven't been there in a while), and there you actually cannot get points for posting there.

To clear something up, the user your trying to prove wrong knows full well that FP isn't the only forum to use it. So, your not affecting him in any way.

Anyways, I've seen a few forums use the lottery, but like El Canadiano said, it's just kinda there. As far as I could tell, there was nothing to spend points on, it was more of a bragging thing?

Is there anything wrong with lottery or point system, because I was thinking on implementing a plug-in where you earn points by posting and then you can use that points to buy forum stuff and even real world item. It also has a lottery and gambling system built in (for fun) 😉

I used to have lottery on my forum but I removed the extra features. Lottery seems a bit unfair because some people could forget about the lottery and the only person who puts in there share wins.

The cash mod I use on my forum updated & included in the update was a new lottery system so I decided to give it a try. Its pretty cool & works differently than lottery's Ive used on phpbb and vB.
Members think its fun & it gives them something to spend their cash on.

Yeah it seems like FP is the only real established forum I've been on that includes a lottery with a point system.

I have a feature like that on my forum, but I have no idea how it works, and so, I just keep it disabled..

I have the exact modification on my board and we do use both the point system and the lottery. We also have an automatic form that you can redeem your points for ebooks which is sponsored by a vendor. You feel out the form and it goes to a special forum and even calculates how much point it will costs you base on the price of the book.

I was initially against the idea of having a points system on my website; now having wrote a custom modification for points and achievements we are allowing members to have custom graphic requests and other such services.

We run a simple lottery (though we have only been open a short while) just as a bit of a fun activity to get members further involved with the community. Though I'm not 100% that it will be used that much for some reason
