How many posts before a forum gets really active? I hear the magic number is 10,000?

I think you might need to define “active”. To me, activity is daily logins/posts, but I can see and appreciate how others may see it as an overall lifetime.
I consider 10k posts to be an “established” forum though for what it’s worth 😛.

Can't legitimately put an active label on a forum with so many posts, but based on members that log on frequently to make it a place to want to come and post on.

If we were to go by daily/weekly member count, I would slap on between 15 and 40 members logging in and posting on a daily or weekly level, and posting at such levels, to make interaction easier for new members that may sign up.

Ah yes sorry haha I was trying to think of the word..you said it for me 😁 how many posts does a forum need to be deemed 'established'?

I site with 50K posts isn't going to be active, can't put that on. I came across so many sites that have so much content and also over 1000 members and yet the last post made was 6 months ago LOL

I would agree with Hungry Ego that to me established would be 10,000 posts but I would go even further and say those posts cannot be from the site owner and staff. Other members need to be posting throughout the site to show that there is actual interest in the forum.

I think active/activity is subjective......I consider my forum active, we get posts daily and here's my logins for the last 24 hours:

I consider mine fairly active, and we vary from lows of 5 people on and maybe 15 posts in a day to 16 people on and 200 posts in a day. I guess we still got a ways to go till we can declare ourselves "established" though. 😛

My end can be active as long as active post exchange is on going LOL

I think this is a highly subjective metric. I’d rather see a forum with 5-6 active users posting 2-3 times a day, actively engaging with content, than a forum with no one but the owner posting hundreds of times a day. At least with the first situation, you get varied content and someone likely to engage with as a user.

Keeping members active is not easy unless you so daily active post exchanges. LOL

I would question whether the content you have is engaging enough to warrant independent discussion. I, personally, don’t codify exchanges as true activity as the content dies when you stop posting on someone else’s forum. Also, I didn’t say getting true activity was easy. Most forum projects fail to some extent.
