How many posts would you need in a subforum to make it look very active? I've noticed some forums that have just ten or fifteen discussions in a subforum but hundreds of replies.

Just wondering if maybe more new discussions are needed in those situations and if some responses could be split off (assuming they are off topic) to create new discussions.

As for me, I like to have at least 100 discussions in a subforum or it feels very empty.

I think 100+ threads in each forum is attractive to a guest thinking about registering... Also I'd look for when the threads were last replied to. If I saw a forum with hundreds of threads in each forum but nobody has said anything in weeks, it will appear inactive no matter what the numbers are.

A hundred threads in a forum sounds awesome but it's more for long, old forums. For new ones you may not need that much, IMO. Personally I don't mind having only 20-30 threads but like theezy said, best thing is to keep discussion on-going as long as possible, fresh, and inviting. 🙂

It's all personal and relative to the forum and its owner. As long as discussions are happening in that forum daily then you should be fine.

Maybe some of those discussions could be merged and then bumped by admin or forum owner to get them started again.
