I like seeing forum discussions that have dozens of responses as it usually means the community is really interested in that topic and wants to contribute their opinion. And, sometimes, it's easy to come up with winning discussions that get everyone talking. Other times, a discussion will get few or no responses. At those times, I wonder what it is about the discussion that failed to spark interest.

Sometimes if a topic I created didn't get any replies, I'll delete it and re-post it again in hopes for some new eyes to see the topic and reply. Sometimes it works, I am assuming because initially the topic was burried quickly and nobody noticed it?

Can't you just use the 'bump' feature where it bumps the thread without you replying?

Not sure if I have that option, but what difference does it make? You can accomplish the same thing either way. 😛

at least a few I would imagine. I would include questions and such to spark interest and more discussion within the topic. But you do get the odd thread which gets no replies. xD

It depends on the subject. I know some video-games are played by more members than others, so what I expect comes down to primarily how much interest I believe the topic will get to begin with. Topics that have a wider audience appeal will be the ones I expect to see more replies to than those that don't. I'm usually content though if a topic can hit a second page, or better, enough replies to be marked as a hot topic.

It helps to keep your finger on the pulse. If you post along the lines of what is moving people, you're standing a much better chance than if you follow just where your own interest is leading you. Requires just a bit of research on a daily basis..

If there is around 3 other members discussing in a thread I am happy. The amount of replies I do not know. I like to ask follow up questions in threads to encourage more replies so I cannot put a number on reply counts.
