A couple of curious questions to all the admins out there.First how many forums have you started and closed because they did not do as well as you expected.
Second question, do you always purchase a new domain name? Or do you settle for the free forum sub domains?
I had 5 general chat forums on free forum hosts using their subdomains that I ending up closing. My most recent forum is also hosted on a free forum host but I also registered a domain name for it. The forum isn't a general chat forum, it's more of a niche forum.
Oh god, to many forums to count, a lot around 3 years ago when I had no clue what the hell I was doing, so can't answer that. On to the second part, yes I always buy domains now for forums, at least a .info but for my newest one got a .com and it looks better -happy-
I only made 2 forums that I have open to the public and I closed both them. I closed the first one because it wasn't doing good and I closed the 2nd one because I didn't have the time to mange it.
Still on my first forum. And, never knew i had the option to buy a new domain, and manual host it over my free forum domain url. I actually leanred how to do it, and get started, right here on FP.
If this forum wouldn't have so much content, or i could convert everything; I'd move on paid hosting in a herat beat.
Well this is the first one that I started independently, but I've been a co-admin on about 5 so far. One of them closed because the staff were generally exhausted and too busy to keep it up.
