How much diskspace/bandwidth would I need?

Basically I'm looking to open a few forums, and I've found a free hosting deal on BossyHost that I'm interested in.

cPanel Hosting
2GB Disk Space
25 GB Bandwidth
1 PHP5, MySQL Databases
Satisfaction Guaranteed
Softaculous, Cloud Flare, RVSitebuilder

Is this sufficient to run a forum? I'm not good with the tech side (I'd get a technician to deal with hosting), so I know very little about what I would need. Help!

I wouldn't use a free host for a bunch of sites you also need to take into consideration the line speed, server ram and processing power, etc.. make sure they're not overselling. You may be offered a nice amount of resources but the server could be crap.

You would want to get a nice amount of bandwidth just to be sure. For not too big forums a good starter would be 25gb like you've shown but if they're slightly popular you would like to invest in more (I have 15TB). Disk space would be fine unless you're recording error logs, access logs, uploading files, etc.. you would want a separate database per site for security and as you're not very technical you would be better off with a management system like cpanel so you can do everything from that one area.

I've used many different paid sites before (now onto dedicated) but one of the best would be either hostgator or aplusnet but you would be looking at $10 a month.

If it's just the one site you could give free hosting a whirl but if you're looking into taking this seriously, getting big, etc.. you would like to go with a well known company that can look after your site, minimise downtime, gain productivity, and give you that redundancy/stability you need.

Most (not always) of the time a free host is run by a teenager and if they come into money shortages which they most likely are, or if they get bored they might decide to shut down at any time unexpectedly and your data would be lost.

I've had this with a paid host before too though but as I said if this is just a hobby and you want to save money a free host is a good go ahead but otherwise I would invest a small amount of money to give you that boost over the others 🙂

-- Long paragraph so chances are it doesn't make sense and is repetitive, but hopefully you get my point 😛

Thanks for the wise words, I'm gonna look around and see what I can sort out.

Joseph is right, everything he said must be taken into consideration. Purchasing web hosting is not just business its also a commitment. You trust us with running your website, and we take on that responsibility head on. Bossy Host is here to stay, and in the event that we do close down, we will notify our clients a month ahead.

I do believe that, 2GB Disk Space and 25GB Bandwidth is enough to run your forum and if you find that its not, you can upgrade for just 3$ 😛

Thanks for considering Bossy Host! Hope this eases your mind

Depends what forum software you're going to use and your potential or estimate amount of members you will have?

MyBB, and I can't say how many members will sign up, if I knew that I'd say millions 😛

Quite honestly, I've used 000webhost and found that the server was quite low quality for dynamic scripts with constant issues so, I wouldn't recommend that host to anyone.

I think you should try to find a good shared hosting company 😉 Just look at reviews and find one's that are totally opposite than 000webhost 😛
