After coming to this forum, I just realized how desperate people are to get posts on their forums. They do a short 5/5 post exchanges or register/register exchanges. But, to be really honest, how much does it really help in the end? I think I was reading one of Fergel's blog posts, and it touched upon this subject, and I'd like to agree with him in saying, I don't think it helps much in the long run. Rather, it looks bad for your forum have someone post 5/10 posts and disappear all of a sudden. I've never used it and don't really plan on using it. For do who do and those who don't, what's your view on this?

Ive only considered using a 5/5 with topics (mind you I havent actually done one yet)... simply because new topics on my forum are few and far between. But whenever a new topic shows up, it usually gets like 10+ replies easily because I already have a large, very active user-base.
Other than that, it doesnt help, especially for people with small forums. Other than making it look like you have somewhat active members when you actually dont accomplishes nothing. Its not like Id be more inclined to join a forum with 1-5k posts than one with 0-100 - but that's just me.

I think it really depends on the activity of your own forum. If your forum is just starting out (as mine is), it could really help with new members. But if your forums been around for a while, and you're getting loads of activity, that's probably when I would quit post exchanges and just go to requesting packages on a regular basis. I don't know, that's just my two cents. If all else fails, try to start a contest of some sort.

They're only good for quick-boosting activity, perhaps if your forum is in a slum or something. No, you're unlikely to get long-term posts from it, but hey, activity is activity. There also is the very rare instance of getting an active member in the process as well.Ryan King said:

Though I'll admit, I've turned more towards the $FP-for-posts exchanges rather recently, but you need to be fairly active here to build up enough FP to do that sort of thing.
