I recently launched a premium phpBB extension but I'm not sure if I've priced it too high or just not enough people know about it and as such aren't going to check it out. I created an extension that allows people to make money on their forum.

They create a product and can set it as a one time purchase or as a subscription. I'm currently (trying) to sell it for £200. It took me nearly a month to create it and it's a one time purchase so once you've bought it, you can use it forever on as many forums as you like.

What do you think to this? Is it too expensive?

I genuinely think 200 USD is too much for an extension, especially on a free open source software.

Compared to Invision Community / XenForo where more serious audience is located, you'll find add ons, applications, plugins for as low as 10 to 100 USD for more complicated stuff.

I think if you want to get some traction and get your extension known, a price of 15 - 25USD is more realistic.

Good luck!

Yeah I think you might be right and I think that's a huge problem too, which is phpBB is not as popular as it once was and XenForo seems to be the software of choice for most people these days.

Not too late to switch softwares. 😉

There are far more profitable opportunities on XF as a developer. 👍

Haha, I would but I can't afford the license fees. I have considered it though!

That's a pity. Well hopefully when you sell some licenses of your extension, you'll be able to afford it. 😉

It is. PhpBB is outdated.

For £200, users might compare it to existing solutions or custom coding options. Maybe offer a free trial or tiered pricing for different feature sets?

I don't really feel that phpBB is outdated, but it's certainly not as popular as it once was. As for the price I would definitely lower it to say £15 or £20.
