I had my forum for almost 2 years, and over that duration we went through many upgrades/changes. I am very happy with my progress, even though I had some struggles along the way with personal issues, but once I got back to working. I'm happy with what I accomplished.
How much have you changed/improved your forum since you first started your community?
The forums I run, which have been around for more than a year, have been condensed.
I started with way too many categories and boards. I decided to reduce those sections and focus on a lot of interesting topics, especially in the main niche section.
I also need to improve my member onboarding skills. I know what to do; I just need to do it.
So much that I can't even remember or type that amount of things. But if I go back into the logs, it's a big list of things. Then again, since 2015 till now in 2025, it's been 10 years since BG opened.
All I can say is that I started with SMF before going over to paid forum software that's IPS V3, then V4 and now might be upgrading to V5
Thee Zone changed a little bit since I founded it. (It is a mash up of three forums.) I installed a new clans plugin but still need to get another extension for it so I can fully utilize the plugin. As for my other forums that have been around for a bit, the theme changed on Gex Forum and some behind the scenes things changed but other than that it's remained pretty similar since I opened it in 2023.
Over the last 16 years, Poliwager Forums has changed quite a bit in a few different ways. Originally, the forum was hosted on a free forum website with a non-custom domain. When I moved the site to my own host, it gained the custom domain name, as well as more custom styles as I was able to edit more on the back end of it. Over the years we've changed styles a bit too, and the header logos have changed a few times. Last but not least, in the early years it was much more active on a daily basis than it is now - we still have people stopping in and posting fairly often, but not at a rate like it was in the first 3 years of the site when internet forums were booming.
