I know forums aren't all about the money (all of them shouldn't be about that) but just curious, how much money can a forum make?

It mostly depends on the traffic the forum is getting.

Forums are good for monetization because users stick around for a while, as in they view a lot of pages on the site. The more pages a unique visitor views, the more likely they are to click on an advertisement.

Take Hack Forums for example... they allow users to upgrade and hundreds upgrade everyday. It was $18 last time I checked so multiply that by a few hundred a day and you're making a lot of money... then add ads and there's even more revenue. There's definitely a lot of possibilities to make money from your forum, it just takes work.

It depends on the stats (posts/members/threads) I think. The more you have, the more the forum is worth. I may be wrong though.

Hardly anything worthwhile, unless its getting a lot of traffic.

Well all depends on the traffic and the ads you're showing up unless you ask for a paid membership -- which is very unlikely in current economy.

One of my known just made $460 out of his blog and mostly from Google AdSense -- so I think, one can make money but it does take some time.

Yes. The great thing is though that that sky is the limit. If you look at the most successful forums out there; their functionality is rather simple. There is just a great work ethic and a lot of determination and work behind them..
