How much research does a long blog and/or forum post need?

I'm thinking a lot. Of course, that's assuming you're not super smart at the subject. Anyway, if you don't research, is it no wonder it's frustrating to write?

Not much, the idea is to write about something you already know about, while occasionally looking at things which might come in useful every now and then to accumulate little nuggets of knowledge.

It depends a lot on your knowledge of the topic and how in depth you wish to go with the piece. A lot of smaller sites don't do it, but contacting the company or people you are writing about for more info could be part of the process too.

If I were to write anything, I'd always like to do a little bit of cursory research around the topic to ensure no-one calls me out for saying something incorrect (get enough of that at work! :woot:) - for a forum posting anyway. If I was writing a blog piece i would most definitely research the topic a bit more thoroughly to ensure it's all correct! I just like learning a bit more anyway. 🙂

What about yourself @Jason76, how much do you like to research?

But what if I need to write 500 word essay about myself and I don't know what to write? Is it good decision to use writing service? Or may be you have better advice?
