Little over 2,000. This does not have my mouse, monitor though. BenQ 1440p 60Hz IPS monitor which cost me $200 (bought it off a friend he only had it for a month so pretty much new)
RAZER Mamba Tournament Edition Chroma Gaming Mouse which cost about $90 at the time I bought it.
I also plan on adding 2 more ram sticks to give a total of 32GB of Ram as well as throw in another 2TB SSHD or 4TB. Lastly I want to get a nice Corsair Keyboard. So once I actually finish my total build it could around up nearly $2,500.

My laptop was around $600 to $700 at the time I bought it and I bought it new.
The desktop, I can't really give you an amount on it because it's one that my hubby put together himself. I can't tell you how much money he spent on it 'cause he built the computer himself and didn't purchase a pre-built computer instead. I'm sure he spent more money on it than my laptop but I can specify a certain amount.

I think the quality of ASUS is worth the price. Mac on the other hand, you're paying for the name nothing else.

Maybe you've been unlucky. But any apple product isn't worth the price! You're only paying for the brand name.

My Asus G750JW cost $1700 and my Asus X553MA cost $350 (both prices are after taxes).
I got them both on special though... The G750 was supposed to sell for $1650 (and then tax on that) while the X553MA was supposed to sell for $400 (before tax).
Though truthfully I'd rather buy an Asus laptop that cost 2500 over the mac equivalent...
Here's an Asus laptop that already curbstomps anything by apple.
17.3" screen, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 2.6ghz intel core i7, 16GB ram (expandable to 32gb),
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB vram, wireless 802.11AC.
And you could more than easily spend a bit more money to buy a bigger SSD for the primary slot to bring it closer to the macbook price.
Why is this better even as it sits? Note the GPU... the GeForce GTX 1060. Virtually everything apple shows uses an integrated graphics chip meaning better battery life... but it severely cripples what the systems can do. So, sure, the macbook pro has an intel core 17 that can hit 2.8ghz (and then clock up to 4ghz)... but when it comes to gaming or performance the CPU isn't nearly as important as GPU. And it isn't until the $2399 macbook that you can get a Radeon pro 450 GPU (which itself is only slightly better than a GeForce GTX 950M). But once you hit that price range for Asus stuff you can get some fairly powerful equipment.
If you're only interested in long battery life then there are other options than going with a gaming class system. They're also much cheaper and will do everything that the mac does.

It's interesting to see how much laptops are now though since 2006. Because in 2006, especially in the US laptops were about $2500 for a fairly decent one, but now you can pick up a decent one over there for about $600
@VirusZero Maybe you know where to get an motherboard for an G751J. 18 months old been off for 7 months as it was shipped over and paid $2400 from and sale cost of $3000
