How much web space and bandwidth do I need to run a forum?

I am planning on running my own forum, and was wondering how much web space and bandwidth do you guys recommend if I was to run a forum using MyBB?

Thanks! I am looking into getting a cheap plan, and then possibly upgrading when I start earning more money.

I would say 3GB of disk space and 50GB of bandwidth but realistically 1GB of disk space should be enough to start off.

1GB is enough for the space but you should get at least 20GB or more bandwidth.

Give some thought to the function of your forum and expected traffic.

1) Will there be a lot of graphic content accessed?
2) Forecast your membership levels.
3) Will your forum have streaming features?
4) Are YouTube videos and general media a factor?
5) Will members be able to download any content?

These are all factors regarding Forum/Website bandwidth.

However, more and more reputable hosting companies (like ours) are offering unlimited bandwidth and have done for a good few years now.

Thanks for the help. I just signed up for a plan that offers 5 GB of web space, and 25 GB of bandwidth. If I need to, I will upgrade eventually!

This should be plenty, as long as you're only running the one forum on the hosting plan. If you want to add more sites, you may eventually need more web space but that 5 gigs should last awhile. The bandwidth should last awhile as well but you'll eventually need more as you gain activity.

It's typical to worry about these levels of activity (storage/bandwidth), especially if you are not on an unlimited package. However, more often than not, you "typically" need less that you plan for!
