Do you buy a domain only when you have a full plan for a site to use it with or do you buy the domain right away as soon as you think of it? How often do you end up buying a new domain overall?

I very rarely buy domains, but when I do I have usually put quite a bit of thought into what I am going to do with it, as I don't want to buy a domain and then not use it.

I wish I had that kind of self control. lol. I'll buy a domain on impulse, and then it sits in my account doing nothing. 😛

I usually sit on the idea of buying a domain for several days, up to weeks before deciding whether to buy it or not. Even though they are cheap, I still don't want to be throwing money away.

But from your two options, I would say the latter, but I would think about what to do with it at the time of purchase (or no purchase, if I decide against it).

Sigh, sadly this describes me as well. I think of an idea, snap up the domain, then change my mind before I get to it. I do have some lovely domain names though. I hope a couple of them will at least re-sell nicely, as they should be very easy to brand. (especially when there are $0.50 and $0.99 cent domain sales, lol)

Ive bought a few & sold them and just let some expire and die. I've mainly used them for sites I am running. I remember doing a contest back on an old forum where I gave away those $1 .info domains. Anyway, I am only controlling one domain at the moment and I just switched it to NameCheap to save a few bucks on renewals. 🙂

I spend weeks deciding if I should buy a particular domain name or just leave it be. I do have some use but that use eventually goes down in weeks time so essentially that domain is proven useless. I could have gotten a premium domain by now with all these unused domains.

A lot of them are on Hover, too. Lots of time spent on the backend for these supposed domains and they always end up halting in progress. Even now there's a domain in my mind for a forum. But that's exactly what's stopping me since it's been years since my last one.
