Do you do it yourself or go to a professional? I was going to the salon every 6 weeks to get my hair lightened...but $180 that often was getting too expensive. I haven't been since November or December I think. :/

Buy your own kit and do it yourself? I do my own highlights! I use a little brush that came in some kit many years ago and I just wash it out and save it for the next time. It looks like a mascara wand.
I've been letting my grays grow out (I'm 59) and find that I HATE my natural hair color. I like the grays though! So I tend to add some browns along with the highlights whenever I get sick of my own mousey color.
My natural hair color is dark brown. I’ve spent the last four years going to the salon to get it to the blonde that it is now. I’m super picky about how my hair is and also half the time it just doesn’t cooperate. Before I found my currently stylist, the last two places I went turned it gold instead of like an ashy blonde which is what I have right now and wanted from the very beginning. I feel like if I tried to do it myself I’d screw it all up and go crawling back to my stylist. She also does foils and I have no clue how to do that 🤣🤣
Your hair sounds a lot like the way my mom’s does and I used to color her hair for her! I feel like doing a brown color is a lot easier than trying to lighten it from brown to blonde with bleach and foils and stuff.
My natural hair color is blonde. I’ve been dying my hair since I was 13 and often do some kind of red, dark color. My go to for the past few years is Amethyst Black. It changes color depending on the kind of light you are in. Sometimes it looks red, blue or purple.

I was going about once every 6 weeks about a year and a half ago or so to get mine done, but $350+ and tip just wasn't in my budget anymore. Ended up cancelling my last appointment partly because I just didn't want to spend the money again and partly because I'd also been scheduled at work and didn't want to just reschedule the appointment. Haven't gone back to the salon since.
I did end up buying some of my own coloring supplies though!! It's definitely a lot cheaper to just do it myself lol. Haven't done it in a few months though, but it's been on my mind a lot lately. Might do it this weekend, might not, we'll see.

There has only been one time in my life that I paid to get my hair done professionaly, and that is when I decided to try an ombre style. It was close to 500 + tip and I had to have my hair stripped because of all the red I'd had in it over the years (don't recommend that).

I've only coloured my hair once and that was around 2019 when I used to trim my hair. Changing hair color was the trending thing back then and I had no choice than to join my friends in doing it. I didn't carry it for more than 3 weeks before I changed it.
I've never colored my hair. I don't see a necessity.
