How often do you join a forum promoted here?

I'm curious how many people join forums promoted on this site (or any promotion forum) and how often. Do you join any forum you like, only forums that you are paid to join/post on or no forums at all? Why?

I have a feeling most people don't join (m)any forums promoted here, but everyone has a promotion topic and expects others to join. Seems a bit contradictory, right?

I probably have never really joined a forum which has been promoted here, not recently anyway. I'm a member on a few of them, but these days I'm just to busy 🙁

Unfortunately I'm the same way, though I'd like to change that.

I've looked at quite a few sites promoted here... And I have joined a few (not because I was doing a post exchange or anything like that), they were mostly other promotion sites though with not many besides that genre. (Even though it would probably be more beneficial to my site to join other types too.)

Personally, my time is limited and there is always something more I should be doing for my own site. (Whether it's making another post, adding or editing a page on our wiki, etc...)

Plus I will readily admit that I'm also picky about which sites I join.
I tend not to join new sites simply because I'm always afraid that admin is simply going to get bored or whatever and fold the site after a month. (If I know they're a serial site maker then I won't join. )

I also don't like joining new sites where there is no content posted yet. (I have no issue starting topics myself... But I want to at least see that the admin is trying or else I'm not going to bother wasting my time.)

Furthermore if I see any cursing (EX- "Obey the f*kin rules") in the index, forum rules or important documents... I'm out. (Cursing there just tells me the staff is either: juvenile, trollish, rude or otherwise not ready to be staff. They may be well behaved, polite and easy going... but I'm still not going to bother sticking around to find out. My time is limited and there are always more sites who have staff that care about being professional in their important documents/index.)

I used to join a lot of forums here back in the day but my time is very limited recently due to overwhelming client work, my own projects and of course, I am now a father too.

I read some blogs promoted on here, Geekshut etc; But most of the forums don't interest me.

If I see something new and interesting I will sign up, but unfortunately *most* forums and sites posted here lack in originality and don't look promising at all. Most close down or vanish one day without a whisper, thats another reason why I don't join.. Whats the point in joining forums that aren't going to be here this time next week?

That does seem on a bit of the awkward side. I mean, we advertise in the hope of driving traffic to our sites, but yet we never "pay it forward" so to speak? That really doesn't make sense. However, I really don't join up with too many forums anymore, and it's been a while since I joined up with one. I did join up with this general discussion forum once, but quit posting there as the owner couldn't make up his mind for anything and obviously doesn't know how to make backups so people don't have to register again, so I've stopped posting at his sites. This is actually one of the reasons why I don't join many forums anymore.

If you are helpful and respected on the ForumPromotion community, you will tend to get members signing up to your forum. Pandaa got a large number of forum promotion members on ForumHour because he is / was so well respected here. If someone is newer here, they are going to find it difficult to promote here unless they have a competition going, are doing post exchanges or are helping out other site owners here in the hope that they will return the favour.

I signed up for AdminsVortex from being promoted on FP. However I signed because Jordan, who has invested and is an admin of the site, is a member of Webgurubb and I respect him and his projects. I know that he is going to put effort into a forum and isn't going to close it if activity drops off.

As said above there are two reasons why I only rarely sign up for forums nowadays:

1. I have no time.
2. I don't want to bother posting on a forum and have it close down after a month or two.
